MEC VASS VISITS SOME OF THE 1 BILLION RAND HOUSING PROJECTS IN THE ZF MGCAWU DISTRICT.
MEC Bentley Vass, accompanied by the Regional Director of the Department of COGHSTA in the ZF Mgcawu District, Mr. Andre Phete, conducted an oversight visit to some of the 1 Billion Rand Housing Projects in the Dawid Kruiper Local Municipality, in the ZF Mgcawu District.
A total of 500 houses are to be built in the Dawid Kruiper Municipality (450) and Kheis Municipality (50).
The ZF Mgcawu District contracts are all behind schedule, and this prompted the visit by the MEC to engage with the Regional Office, the Implementing Agent and one of the main contractor in the District.
MEC Vass also engaged with some of the beneficiaries to reassure them that in the next two months substantial progress will be realised to ensure that completed houses are handed over to these beneficiaries.
Furthermore, the MEC received a report that following the termination of two contractors in this District due to non-performance, the District will now have a total of seven (7) contractors instead of the initial three (3) contractors appointed in 2024, to speed up the progress.
This demonstrates the resolve of the Department to ensure that all the 500 houses across the two local municipalities are built, completed and handed over to beneficiaries, before the end of November 2026.
